A state appeals court handed Donald Trump several victories as he seeks to appeal the $545 million verdict in a civil fraud trial in New York.
The appeals court slashed the amount of money Trump needs to post for a bond to appeal down to $175 million. Trump was granted an additional ten days to secure the bond.
In addition, Trump and his adult sons will be able to continue running businesses in the state while the appeal is heard.
New York Attorney General Letitia James issued a brief statement following the appeals court's decision.
"Donald Trump is still facing accountability for his staggering fraud. The court has already found that he engaged in years of fraud to falsely inflate his net worth and unjustly enrich himself, his family, and his organization. The $464 million judgment – plus interest – against Donald Trump and the other defendants still stands."
The ruling was handed down while Trump was attending a pretrial hearing in New York City for his criminal trial for allegedly falsifying business records while making hush money payments to women during the 2016 presidential campaign. That hearing did not go as well for Trump as the judge dismissed his motions to end the proceedings and said the trial would begin on April 15.
