On Air Details

I handle the weekday morning and midday news on 1150 WIMA.
I also take care of our news content on the web, Facebook, etc.

During the high school football season, I'm busy back at the station updating our text score updates, gathering final scores, and getting them on during Touchdown Ticker every Friday night from 10p-11p.

I also enjoy being the host of the weekly Buckeye Tailgate Parties during the football season.

Todd also throws me a bone once in a while as well, getting to do play-by-play for area games on our broadcast schedule.

Seasons Change
Friday 05-03-2013 11:05am ET

"It's the time of the season for"..

Is it just me, or did we have a long winter? And, as I write this, they're still getting snow in places like Colorado and Minnesota, in May!

Glad to be able to get out a little bit, and feel the warmth of the sun on the skin.

Being in radio, we're usually inside, with no windows to the outside world, and the only glow we get are from our computer monitors..

And, it just hit me the other day, that I only have a few days left in my 30's!!!

Hop you enjoy your spring..Before you know it, it'll be time to crack up the AC!

Another Trip to the Ohio HS Boys State Basketball Tournament
Monday 04-01-2013 10:53am ET

It's always enjoyable to have an excuse to drive to Columbus, but every middle to end of March each year, the trip usually includes a Saturday at the Schottenstein Center on the Ohio State campus for the Boys Basketball State Title games.

This year, Putnam County was represented in full force, as Ottawa-Glandorf won it all in D3, topping Versailles.  I'm so happy for a guy that played for OG in high school when I did their games on the radio in Tyson McGlaughlin, who, of course, is now the Titans head coach.

And I was really pleased in Leipsic's performance. Scott Maag has that program turned around, and despite losing in the D4 title game, they had fun, played hard, and didn't pout, but held their heads up high with a runner-up finish.

Check out our complete photo album from the state tournament on our Facebook pace under News/Talk 1150 WIMA.

Bracket Busting
Tuesday 03-19-2013 8:33am ET

It's the most wonderful time of the year, especially if you are a basketball fan.

The middle of March means its College Basketball tournament time, the local high school scene shifts to Columbus for the state championships, and the NBA is gearing up for the playoffs.

This year's NCAA Men's Division One tournament is wide open. Could this be the year that a 16-seed beats a 1-seed in the early rounds?

Congrats to Thad Matta and the Buckeyes, for (ho-hum) winning another Big 10 Tournament title. The Buckeye program is due for a national title, only winning one in the school's history, back in 1960.

As an alum of a Mid American Conference school, its disappointing, on both the men's and women's sides, that usually only one team, the conference tournament champion, gets in, year after year. What people probably don't realize is that Gonzaga, a very small school in Spokane Washington, is the equivalent, maybe even smaller, of the likes of Bowling Green and Toledo.

And a shout out as well goes to the University of Findlay men's and women's teams, for their recently completed successful seasons at the D-2 level.

Good luck in filling out those brackets. Remember, only one per person!

Recap of State of the State Speech in Lima
Monday 02-25-2013 11:50am ET

Lima was able to host a bit of history last week, when the 130th Ohio General Assembly came to the city, and heard Governor John Kasich's State of the State address.

It wasn't just the event itself which took place inside the Crouse Performance Hall, but the entire day, that made it very special.

I got the chance to interact with lawmakers, and even interview a few member's of the Governor's cabinet, since they took part in meetings and events on Tuesday, all throughout the area.

No matter how you are or where you stand politically, it was an historic day for Lima.

And, I found it rather disturbing that most media outlets around the state ran a story, the day after the speech, that Lima was in the top 10 of "saddest cities" in America. The numbers were based on "tweets" from Twitter. Right there should tell you how credible that is, since anyone can post anything they want on social media sites.

Concert Review: Christopher Cross
Friday 02-15-2013 9:41am ET

At The Niswonger Performing Arts Center, Van Wert, OH, Thu, Feb 14, 2013:

One of my all-time favorites, and I missed out on seeing him in Tiffin a few years back. I wasn't going to miss this one, plus it gave me a chance to check out the Niswonger PAC, which I've never been to before.

Cross is mostly known for his 1980 debut album, which won him a Grammy. You may have heard tunes as well like "Think of Laura" which was used for the TV soap General Hospital, and "Arthur's Theme" from the movie soundtrack to "Arthur" starring Dudley Moore in the early 80's.

The guy is a great songwriter, and is really underrated as a great acoustic and electric guitar player.

His versions of "Sailing" and "Ride like the Wind" were awesome, and he communicated with the audience very well. He also referenced using an I-pad, to help him on lyrics he wrote over 30 years ago.

None of the members of his band sang back-up, but the sound was still great.
