Several dignitaries- former mayors of Wapakoneta- the current mayor- and members of the U-S Space Program were among the hundreds that turned out on a moon-kissed night- for the "Wink at the Moon" event- honoring the late Neil Armstrong.
The Armstrong Air and Space Museum front lawn hosted the event.
A long time friend of Armstrong's- Dudley Shuler- talked about interacting with the first man to walk on the moon.
Current Astronaut Gregory Johnson recalled watching the moon mission back in 1969.
One of the other featured speakers was the director of the Glenn Research Center in Cleveland- Ray Lugo.
It was fitting that it was a clear summer night- with the moon shining bright in the southeastern sky
The night ended with everyone instructed to give a wink to the moon- as per request by the Armstrong family.
