We've reached the halfway point of the 2012 season and the area conferences have a total of nine teams with a perfect 5-0 record.
Here is a look at those teams and the aggregate record of the teams they have defeated (The opponents records reflected are the records in games other than their losses to the undefeated teams):
Western Buckeye League
Ottawa Glandorf 9-11
Midwest Athletic Conference
Blanchard Valley Conference
Three Rivers Athletic Conference
Toledo C.C. 14-6
Using this metric the most impressive teams are Coldwater and Toledo C.C.
The least impressive is Elida.
Let's look at the Top Performers from Week 5:
Western Buckeye League:
The Titans handed Kenton its worst loss since 2008, 52-16. O-G has already defeated Celina and Kenton so the game with Elida is probably the only speed bump to a 10-0 season.
Honorable Mention: Elida
The Bulldogs had a breakout offensive performance putting up a season-high 38 points in their win over Shawnee.
The T-Birds faced a challenge from fellow unbeaten Delphos Jefferson and used a goal line stand and big plays to post a 42-19 win. L.C.C. has now won 24 consecutive regular season games and their NWC winning streak to 20 in a row.
With the JeffCats stacking the box to stop the run, QB Colin Stolly used his weapons for three long TD passes. He hit My'Kale Rogers on a 78 yard scored. He also hooked up with Darius West on a 77 yarder and Sam Huffman on a 48 yard score.
The Bearcats whipped Columbus Grove, 30-6, to remain relevant in the conference and playoff picture. They have the T-Birds at home this week.
Midwest Athletic Conference:
The Tigers were written off by some after a season-opening loss to Celina and a Week 3 loss to Coldwater.
The proved to be a mistake. Versailles 24-14 win over Marion Local sends a strong message that second place in this league is going to be a real battle.
Delphos St. Johns
The Jays had previously lost to undefeateds L.C.C. and Coldwater so the 28-7 win over Anna was a must if they want to get in the playoffs and remain in the hunt for second place in the MAC.
Three Rivers Athletic Conference:
The Irish overwhelmed Findlay, 56-27. The #1 team in the Division II poll showed it deserves the ranking.
The Little Giants improved to 12-0 all-time versus Lima Senior as they crushed the Spartans, 48-0. Lima Senior posted only 63 yards of offense.
Blanchard Valley Conference:
The Vikings blew out Arlington, 34-3.
McComb stay perfect in a 62-6 pasting of Vanlue.
Northwest Central Conference:
The Tigers took a 28-20 win over Ft. Loramie. Most felt that the Indians would be a top team in this league upon their entry and Waynesfield sent a message that they're still one of the top teams, too.
Perry and Ridgemont
Perry earned its first win for new Coach Jesse Kill in a 47-27 win over Grove City Christian and Ridgemont moved to 4-1 with a 43-38 defeat of U.S.V.
Here's my Top 10 at the midpoint of the season:
7. Marion Local
8. St. Henry
